Making Meaning out of Disruption: Creating Connection and Communities for Social Justice
This mentoring program provides support and guidance to incoming first-year students entering Pace University during a moment of crisis (i.e. COVID-19 pandemic). Mentors and mentees will generate communities of care and support designed to introduce first-year students to one another, the university, and the local NYC community. Mentors will be paired with a small cluster of first-year students and together, students will collaborate with faculty mentors to design, participate in, and implement social justice initiatives on campus and within the downtown NYC community–remotely if necessary. We endeavor collectively to deepen our connection to one another while addressing community needs pre and post-COVID-19. We will work in collaboration with other mentoring programs at Pace, such as those in the Honors College, Dyson Women’s Leadership Initiative, and others, to ensure that we enhance and respect the integrity of those programs while attending to the difficulties we experience at this time.
